The 39th International Symposium Of Excavations, Surveys And Archaeometry

During the Symposium, organized in cooperation by The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, Uludağ University and Bursa Metropolitan Municipality archaeological excavation and survey work, as well as archaeometric studies of artefacts recovered by these works, carried out in 2016 with the permission of the ministry will be presented.

At the Symposium there are expected to be about 340 presentations in the Excavation Results Meeting, Research Results Meeting and Archaeometry Results Meetings. Scientists from America, Germany, Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, the UK, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Canada and Poland will be in attendance.

The Symposium, which carries the distinction of being the most important archaeological scientific event to take place in Turkey, has been organized without interruption since 1979. From 1979-2003 the Symposium organized under the auspices of the Ministry in Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir and Çanakkale, from 2004 onwards has been organized in cooperation with universities. Within this scope the Syposium has been hosted by – Selçuk University, Konya in 2004, Akdeniz University, Antalya in 2005, Onsekiz Mart University, Çanakkale in 2006, Kocaeli University in 2007, and The Faculty of Languages, History and Geography, Ankara University in 2009. In 2010 the Symposium was held in Istanbul within the framework of the European Capital of Culture events, in 2011 it was held at İnönü University in Malatya, in 2012 in Hitit University, Çorum, in 2013 in Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, in 2014 in the Mosaic Museum, Gaziantep and in 2015 at Atatürk University, Erzurum, in 2016 at Trakya University, Edirne.

During the Symposium there will be around 20 book and information stands of scientific bodies, publishers, companies and civil organizations from various provinces in the Merinos Atatürk Congress Centre.

At the symposium which is expected to be attended by more than 350 Turkish and more than 100 foreign scientists and many students, a set of 6 books consisting of 2016’s presentations will be distributed free of charge to the presenters by the Ministry.
